Effects of Occupation-Based Home Visit Occupational Therapy on Neurobehavioral Problems, Activities of Daily Living, and Occupational Performance in People After a Stroke: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract

|
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of occupation-based home-visit occupationaltherapy interventions on neurobehavioral problems, activities of daily living, and occupational performance usingA-ONE.
Methods: In this study, 14 people were recruited and randomly divided into 7 subjects for the experiment group and7 subjects for the control group. The control group partook only in pre- and post-evaluations, and the experimentgroup participated in occupation-based home visit occupational therapy interventions twice a week, for a total of8 sessions.
Results: The experiment group subjected to occupational therapy intervention showed a significant decrease indisability in terms of emotional/affective disturbances of neurobehavioral pervasive impairment, other dysfunctions,and organization/sequencing of neurobehavioral specific impairment, and a decrease in functional independence.
Significant improvements were also observed in the performance and satisfaction of occupational therapy. Thecontrol group without any intervention did not show any significant change.
Conclusion: Changes in neurobehavioral problems, activities of daily living, and occupational performance wereconfirmed by conducting a occupation-based home visit occupational therapy intervention. Various interventionsare recommended to be applied using this study as evidence for stroke patients living within the community.
